First of all what is a Podiatrist? A Podiatrist is health care professional who specialises in the foot, ankle and lower limb.
What is a Musculoskeletal Podiatrist? A Podiatrist who considers the internal interactions of the lower limb to the foot as well as the external influences e.g. footwear and the ground with relevance to the force that is transmitted via the foot and its effect on the lower limb's anatomy including muscles, tendons, ligaments and skeleton.
This is sometimes referred to as a Biomechanical Podiatrist and the two terms are often used interchangeably, so what is Biomechanics? Biomechanics in its broadest sense is the application of mechanical principles to biological systems. Within the foot and lower leg the application of mechanical principles is vital in formulating treatment plans to address pain within the musculoskeletal system.
